Hi, my laptop tops at 10mbps on 5ghz wi-fi connection, while my cell phone gets 60mbps. My internet provider says the problem lies in my laptop's wi-fi card, but when I connect my laptop using the cell phone's wi-fi tethering connection I get at least 40 mbps. So my problem seems to be software related.

Do you have any idea what it could be?

Thank you.

And what speed do you get on the 2.4 Ghz?

Also, the problem could be in the modem's settings. If your phone is connected to the same WiFi, but you get better speeds on the laptop when connected 'through' the phone to said WiFi, then I would wonder if there are device limitations in the modem settings or the ISPs.

I reset the router to its factory defaults. I get exactly the same speed on 2.4 GHz, to be exact both frequencies tops at exactly 11 mbps, like there's something blocking them, I just can't figure out what it is.

Still don't know what it was but I reset my laptop and everything is ok. It was for sure some software on my laptop that was blocking it.
