Laptop won´t recognize external microphone

So, I have quite a new Asus laptop (Windows 10), with one port for headphones/microphone. Recently I´ve bought a headset with a microphone that also has one 3.5mm jack to plug it in... Headphones work well, but the microphone doesn´t (it works on my phone though, so i know it´s functional). This happened to me 3rd time in a row with those kind of headsets, so I don´t really know what to do. I checked the audio devices on my laptop, but it only shows the internal microhpone.. Anybody has an idea how to fix this issue?

Hi,

Your laptop uses a Headphone/Mic combo port and in your case I would suggest using a splitter specially if your headphones uses 2 3.5mm cable.

Well, that´s the problem. There is only one cable on the headphones. There´s one port in my laptop as well, so I thought it would work.. but for some reason, only the headphones work.
