laptop wont hardwire

my Acer 5534 works fine on wireless but my Ethernet port wont hard wire. (I need to hard wire for a job). I have run rkill scan/ malwarebytes/clcleaner to make sure there are no viruses. I have switched ports and cords. I even purchased a USB/Ethernet adapter. it doesn't work either. nothing helps. I'm running out of things to do. any suggestions besides buy a new computer?

Do the adapters (either onboard Ethernet or USB Ethernet) show up in the device manager as working and not showing any yellow exclamation?

If you check in the network control panel, change adapter settings, Advanced tab, advanced settings -- is the LAN setting on top of the list of connection priority?
