I am thinking of purchasing a flat screen for my gym. Any word on the difference between plasma and lcd would be helpful.

Thanks.

Best bet is to go to a store like Best Buy and see for yourself. Plasma used to have the hands-down best picture esp. for sports (fast action) and movies (contrast ratio), but modern LCDs have pretty much caught up to them. And plasmas used to have burn-in and tilt problems, but modern ones have almost eliminated those problems as well. In general, LCDs can be set brighter than plasmas and use less electricity.

That said, the best picture I have ever seen is on my Pioneer Kuro plasma TV, connected to a Blu-ray player using HDMI. But for use in front of a treadmill, you probably want to get a cheap LCD since, if you're like me, you only spend maybe 30 minutes every other day on it :)...

LCD is the everyman HDTV. It is cost effective, hence its popularity. It is also physically lighter than Plasma. It tends to draw less power than Plasmas as well (though good Plasmas are now beating LCDs). Panasonic/Pioneer are generally the best plasma manufacturers. Sony is definitely the way to go for LCD's. Plasmas are great for fast motion (sports and action movies).Take a look at this
