Lenovo Thinkpad X220 white & black screen

Yesterday my X220 sceen did not start up
The bottom half is white and the top half blackish
Can anybody help with an answer

do you have or can borrow an external monitor compatible with your laptop for testing purposes to see if windows loads onto the external monitor correctly not like on the laptop screen?
