I'm not quite sure how the linked was established and exactly what informations were made public that identifies here as a lesbian, but, IMHO, this woman would have a better life quality if she would assume her sexual orientation.

Not exactly. From the article linked, the suit refers to the ineffective (if genuine) efforts from netflix to obfuscate user identity while using its userbase to data mine their personal preference and movie taste. This has nothing to do with hacking into someone's account.
Netflix won't give out your name along with your preferences in their contests. The chick's suing because she thinks it's possible to associate her name onto her movie preference profile and by extension get a hint of her sexual preferences if someone worked hard enough at it.
Not only does Toms admit that the trick used to needs rely on another external source of information used in conjuncture (imdb in this case) in which you'd have to participate in, but also that netflix did go an extra mile to ensure doing this is as hard as possible.

This is painfully obvious that it's just another get rich quick scheme bound to sink. Even the ex lawyer law professor says there's no case.

You all seam to be assuming her name is being made public by this lawsuit. I see no evidence of that. My guess is that it's a "Jane Doe" suit where only the necessary participants know her name. She's only asking for $2500 so those of you criticizing her for asking for large sums of money apparently didn't bother to read the whole article. Personally, I think if her allegations are true she's owed a lot more. Netflix is very thoughtless and callous toward many of their members, myself included. They discriminate against me (and many others) by withholding new releases for weeks or months because (by their secret method of calculating) I am a heavy user and therefore unworthy of having timely access to current releases. Also, they have for years ignored the pleas of deaf and otherwise hearing impaired members to include subtitles in the movies they stream citing technology issues which are completely false. I would sue them myself if I had the money.

er no. Many families have gay parents.. that aunt, uncle, whatever. And they had children. or They were closet and did the "family" thing but were always gay, or who knows what. Also, they could be bisexual (very popular nowadays - check out your porn collection)- whatever.

That said.... SHE outed herself... on the basis that someone could somehow match an ID with her account name on IMDB. That would take a lot of work and someone has to really try to find another person. I don't know what the exact process is to make the link.

BUT, how does this out her? If she's doing "I'm a lesbian" posts on IMDB... then shes telling the world there... and perhaps with the use of google, you can find the same person posting the same info on two different sites as well.

If she HAD any real concerns about her lesbian private life - then her posts should not be "Jane Doe of New York" - whatever. Just names like we have here and on IMDB.

Another example of the direction this country is headed....how sad our legal system is to allow that suit to even become public in the first place. There are a million ways to keep your information secure and private online. Ex: not using your real name, not listing information in a bio, if possible a fake address or a vague one like "south texas" as your location. Ignorance should never be rewarded.
