lg monitor does not connect to laptop

my brand new lg 24en43 monitor will not connect to my laptop threw HDMI! It recognizes it but says that there is no signal

Check for updated video drivers from the laptop vendor. Does the laptop see the second screen connected? Did you change inputs to the hdmi port you are using on the TV? Does it maybe just need to be enabled on the laptop to use the second screen?
