Locked out HP bios,unknown password

My HP 6715b notebook asks for a password whenever I try to enter the ROM based set up. I downloaded a plug in from the HP website that allows me to access the set up through Windows 7. I think it does the job but I cant be certain until I can check it from the boot screen.

open your laptop and you should see the cmos battery located somewhere on the motherboard. take it out. wait 30 seconds and start up the laptop without the cmos battery in. this should reset the bios to factory settings. after you have done this, turn the computer off again and insert the cmos battery.
