Solution
Get a decent pair of over the ears and add a mic to it. It will be well under budget and have better sound and build quality as similar "gaming" headsets.

Look into a Superlux a pair of SuperLux HD 681 ($32), 3.55 mm male to female extension cable ($3) and add a cheap boom mic ($5). Attatch the mic and extension cable to the headphones using some cable ties.

End product will look like this (picture the Superlux instead of the Sennheisers):

If you can stretch your budget I would recommend these 518s:

VERY...
You should get Logitech G930

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104399&cm_re=g930-_-26-104-399-_-Product

I have this headset and absolutely love it. This headset feels top of the line. Very easy to use and functional and the 7.1 dolby sound is amazing. I never use my regular speakers anymore because I just love the sound quality. It also has a nice range. I find myself watching a youtube video and leaving my room to get something in the kitchen while still listening and not missing a beat.

This is the bestselling gaming headset on amazon with good reason. It is similar quality to the very top of the line headsets, so the value for the money is just great. You wouldn't regret this purchase. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions for me and I'll try to help you out.

I have looked at it and it looks very good but its a bit on the pricy side, Ill keep it in mind and maybe spend a bit extra money for it.

It is slightly above your budget, but it's worth it. I've been using mine over a year and it's a worth while investment if you plan to use it very often. It was on sale for $70 on amazon for black friday. If you look for some deals you might find a good deal on a pair.

Actually I found a few sellers who have this on ebay for $74 brand new with free shipping. Even $1 under your budget lol.

VERY comfortable and sound similar to the 558s for a cheaper price.

Solution
Well Blue Fire may have had bad luck with Logitech, but there are many people who are very happy with their G930s just like me. No matter how good a brand or product, someone will always have a bad experience or get a bad one. It's just how it goes.

You don't think that's the case for corsair or steel series as well?

Okay. Yeah you definitely pay for a name with something like logitech or corsair. Same when you build your PC. Do you pay more for the big name you think you can trust or do you save money and go with a an "off" brand? Always a difficult decision.

Computer parts it's an entirely different story, but at least with headphones it's easier to come to conclusion on whether a product is of good quality and value. Superlux might not be heard of at all to your average consumer, and as such I could see how it could be considered an "off" brand. However, delve into the audiophile community and you will find that some of their headphones are frequently recommended for those looking for something decent on a tight budget.
