Looking to buy: THE MATRIX ON LASERDISC (NTSC)

Is anybody here that has it willing to sell it? I couldn't find it on ebay
or 4 laserdisc sales sites I found. It has to be the american NTSC copy
(or canada or japan or anything else NTSC of course)

Since this is one of the WORST commentary tracks that I have ever had
the displeasure of sitting through, I would say that you are not
missing much.

Not getting it for the commentary. My DVD of it is scratched to hell. I
just want the LD to watch the movie, and I heard somebody say the LD of
Matrix is better than the DVD.

I've been trying to find it too. I sold my single DVD of The Mtrix when I
bought the big DVD boxset of all three movies, but the original DVD release and
the LD have a commentary track that the newer version doesn't. It's also my
understanding that the LD's transfer was identicle to what was shown in
theatres, while the original DVD had extra green tint added to it. In any case,
I'm in the same rut you are, I've been trying for weeks but nobody seems to
have it, or at least they aren't interested in selling it. I can find Japanese
copies of Song Of The South and Star Wars: Episode I, but I can't find copies
of The Matrix.

What was better with the LD was the AC-3 sound track. The AC-3 sound track
on the DVD is not as dynamic as the LD when you play it on a good system. I
was extremely disappointed when the Matrix sets came out and they still lack
DTS sound tracks. I prefer the dynamics and clarity of DTS sound tracks.

Agreed.

The Matrix laserdisc is so rare because it was pressed in small
quantities. Only preorders were filled.

For the same cost you can either look hard and fight to buy a used copy
of the Matrix LD, or you can get a brand new fully loaded pack of
Matrix trilogy DVD with hours of bonuses from any store right away.
You'd really have to love that AC-3 track to justify the expense, which
doesn't seem to be your case if you "just want the LD to watch the
movie".

Well I really like laserdiscs. Retro!!! But I am partially in it for the
AC3 soundtrack, too. Should sound great on my new 1000 watt Yamaha system!
250 watt front Yamaha towers, 200 watt Yamaha rears, and same brand 250
watt center. Also a 400 watt 15" Cerwin-Vega sub.

I'm looking to see if I can knock the gutters off my roof with that movie.

Speakers dont have watts, what are you powering them with?

I should re-phrase and say that I really like Yamaha's professional
studio monitors, it's just they're consumer grade stuff I generally
don;t love so much. But I've never hated them.

I've never cared for any of Infinity's speakers. I find them overly
bright and harsh, and that's a big deal coming from someone who likes
Klipsch's horn tweeter. But our ears are all different.

I've sold both Onkyo and Yamaha, as well as Sony, Harman Kardon and
several other "main stream" brands. I tested a couple of Yamaha models
aganist "high current" Harman and Onkyo models and always thought the
Yamaha sounded like it had more "balls" than other two. Other than
Denon and Pioneer Elite, the Yamaha's are the only fully integrated
units I'll purchase.

Yeah my dad's second amp (of three. he's crazy with amps.) is a Harmon. My
Yamaha definately has more of a punch than either of them alone.

His third amp is actually a 1000 watt Kenwood car amp. It needs three
Radio Shack 13.8v power converters to fully power it. It's on a 1000 watt
12" MTX car subwoofer in a very nice bandpass box behind the couch. Also
has two 15" Pro Studio woofers powered by the Harmon/Kardon.

If all you want is a copy of the movie with AC-3 then a used copy of the DVD
can be had easily and cheaply. As I mentioned earlier, I was kind of interested
in the LD because I wanted the commentary that was excluded from the DVD
version that's in the trilogy boxset, although everyone seems to agree it's a
worthless commentary. Now I'm mostly interested in seeing how it's trasnfer
differs from the DVDs.

Yamaha makes great hardware, although I'm not as in love with their speakers as
I am with their recievers. Nonetheless, I can reccomend some DVDs that'll be
better tests of your system than The Matrix.

Yeah, I know AC3 is on DVD. But the laserdisc AC3 soundtrack is supposed to
not have gone through dynamic range compression like the DVDs and it
generally has just more of a "punch".

One of my favorite parts of that movie as far as getting my subwoofer
going is when Neo touches the mirror and it's like liquid. Now that is
LOW.

I knew someone who was using two 15-inch Cerwin Vega car audio subs in
a sealed box for his home setup, although I can't remember how he had
them powered. What I *do* remember was watching Jurassic Park in DTS on
that system. I've heard cleaner subs before, but I can't remember ever
hearing anything else with that much impact. It was more powerful than
the the movie theatre I originally saw JP in.

I have to partially retract what I said earlier and say that HSU
Research makes a 12-inch car audio sub with impact and Db levels that
are fairly unbelieveable. In a car environment, where I heard the HSU,
I think it's as loud as a single 15-inch Cerwin Stroker, but cleaner
and more accurate. However, it's hard to say how the HSU would perform
in a home environment and I've not yet had a chance to demo any of
their home subs, which I understand are stellar. I've also had the
chance to be in an extended cab Chevrolet S10 pickup, which had FOUR
15-inch Cerwin Stroker series subs in a custom enclosure in the cab
area, behind the front seats, and a fairly high end 3-way system for
the front. Needless to say, the bass was pretty overpowering, not
exactly my idea of an "audiophile" grade system, but the truck was
insane and it literally felt like it was going to shake something
loose. The truck had at least 2 aux. batteries to help run the system,
which included an in-dash screen and DVD playback capability, although
they couldn't get real 5.1 from the system without rear or center
speakers.

I placed an order with Ken Crane's about a month after its release, and a few
weeks later I received my copy... I've always wondered if a second pressing was
done (substantial number of orders after release to warrant it, perhaps), or if
I managed to snag a copy left behind by a cancelled pre-order.
