Low quality on windows movie maker

I have been editing and recording gameplays for some time but im still not satisfied with my the quality of my videos after editing with windows movie maker.I original video format folder are always avi files and the quality is good,since windows movie maker does not support avi files(for me),I converted from avi to mp4 files and the quality is still the same.But when I edit my videosand all that stuff,the output quality was very poor on any resolutions.So I hope you guys know the answer,if you do then please tell.

What settings are you using for output? What version of MovieMaker are you using? I only ask because I just opened build 16.4.3508.0205 and was able to import a large .avi file.
