M50x bad soldering, will it last?

Not the worst soldering job ever. You can always reflow it if you are concerned.

As long as the cable (at the point where it goes into the headset) does not get pulled on a lot then it should be fine.

Cheap soldering irons can be found for around $15. Might be able to get it done cheap or free at an audio store that offers repair if you ask nicely.

I am a little surprised the only thing keeping the wires from shorting together is that they used magnet wire for one of them. I suspect that will have a breakage before the cold soldering joint causes a problem.

You think I could get that done in NYC? I currently live in Qatar (limited tech stores and services), and I am going to visit manhantan soon.

Not from the area, but I imagine there are many audio repair shops around NYC.

That is quite bad it almost looks like a bad repair with a cheep iron that dosnt heat up to temperature correctly

It shouldn't break as long as it doesn't get too much stress
