I have two remarks about this situation:
1 The money shouldn't go to that private firm.
That firm isn't part of the state that the highway belongs to.
There for the revenue generated by that street should go 100% to the state.
2 Although it's understandable that certain people don't want to have anything to do with computers. It is their responsibility to be communicative about stuff. This includes having a non-expired domain and website. There is too little attention for these technical stuff nowadays.

FOLKS PAY ATTENTION--SPEED LIMITS SIGNS ARE A SUGGESTION ONLY.
IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING ON A HIGHWAY AT 65MPH, AND IT SAYS 55MPH
AND THERE IS NO ONE NERE YOU, AND A COP IS HIDING,ETC, AND YOU GET PULLED OVER, YOU CAN BEAT THE TICKET. WHY? BECAUSE THERE IS NO INJURED PARTY. WHEN YOU GO TO COURT,YOU PLEADE INNOCENT,NOT
GUILTY, OR NOT GUILTY, OR NO CONTEST.(AND YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO DO
SO.) THE JUDGE WILL TELL YOU, YOU CAN NOT DO THAT. YES YOU CAN.
WHEN THE PROSECUTING ATTORNEY, STARTS GIVING HIS BS, YOU SAY,
WHOA--YOU CAN NOT TESTIFY, WHERE IS YOUR INJURED PARTY? HE SAYS,
I REPRESENT THE (TOWN,COUNTY,STATE,ETC), AND THE POLICEMAN HERE
HAS JUST TESTIFIED. YOU SAY--OK , SO WHAT, I WAS SPEEDING-SO
WHAT--WHERE IS THE INJURED PARTY--BRING HIM IN TO TESTIFY, I HAVE A RIGHT TO QUESTION (HIM, HER, THEM THE STATE ETC). THEY
CAN NOT DO IT. YOU PLEAD INNOCENT--AND YOU ARE. (NOW THERE ARE
MANY OF YOU READING THIS, THAT ARE SAYING--THIS GUY IS CRAZY.)
IF YOU TAKE THE TIME TO STUDY THE CONSTITUTION, AND THE LAWS, YOU ARE GOING TO FIND OUT I AM RIGHT) ALSO, DRIVING IS NOT------
I REPEAT---IS NOT A STATE GIVEN PRIVILEDGE--IT IS A RIGHT GIVEN TO YOU BY THE CONSTITUTION. WANT MORE--IF YOU ARE NOT DRIVING FOR
PROFIT--I,E COMMERCIALLY--I.E YOU ARE GOING TO SEE GRANDMA-ETC-
YOU DO NOT NEED A DRIVERS LICENSE, OR REGISTRATION ON YOUR--NON
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. I WILL STOP THERE BECAUSE MOST OF YOU WILL
HAVE A HARD ENOUGH TIME BELIEVING THAT.(THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR--NON COMMERCIAL VEHICLE-THE
OWNERSHIP WENT TO THE STATE. YOU THINK YOU OWN IT. (YES THEY WILL LET YOU SELL IT, BUT THE NEW OWNER HAS MERELY TAKEN OVER
YOUR POSITION) YOU DO NOT REALLY OWN IT!! ALSO--WHEN YOU SIGN YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE--UNBEKNOWN TO 99.99999% OF YOU, YOU ARE
AGREEING TO GIVE THE STATE CONTROL OVER YOUR --NON COMMERCIAL
DRIVING. PLEASE DO NOT ASK A--LAWYER, OR DA, OR A MOTOR VEHICLE
CLERK, ETC, DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. RESEARCH THE LAWS-- YOU WILL
FIND OUT THAT I AM RIGHT. WHEN YOU KNOW HOW--AND YOU FOREWARN
THE DA,ETC, YOUR CASE WILL NEVER MAKE IT TO COURT! WHY--BECAUSE
THE JUDGE CAN NOT AFFORD TO LET THE 50 TO 150 PEOPLE IN THE
COURT ROOM, KNOW THE TRUTH--PERIOD. (A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO--I FORGET WHERE --THE STATE NEEDED SOME QUICK MONEY --GUESS WHAT
THEY DID--THEY ORDERED THERE TROOPERS TO GO OUT AND WRITE AS
MANY TICKETS AS THEY CAN--LEGALLY, OR OTHERWISE. THEY--IN ONE
WEEKEND--ARE YOU READY--WROTE 6996 TICKETS. ONE OFFICER RESIGNED
BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO SCREW THE PUBLIC.(JUST REMEMBERED--GOOGLE
VIGINIA 6996.READ THE WHOLE THING) DO YOUR HOMEWORK--GOD BLESS

I simply detest the attitude by some people that, simply because they feel that the method in which they were caught in violation of the law somehow violated their rights and freedoms or some BS, they deserve complete impunity from the punishment it would otherwise incur. It would be like saying, "Well yeah, I killed this guy and broadcasted it with my webcam, but webcam footage isn't admissible in court, and my confession was obtained under duress because the interrogater wouldn't let me have a nibble of his doughnut, so I get off easy. Nyah-Nyah-na-Nyah-Nyaaaaah!"

Society has so many jackasses.

Seriously? your going to compare 9 over to murder? you're right, Society does have a lot of jackasses. How bout next time you have a thought dribbling out of your brain stop it and ask yourself, "when this gets out is it gonna make me look like a douche nozzle?"

Oh and yes, if the evidence was inadmissible and without it the prosecution could not prove his guilt "beyond a shadow of a doubt" the murderer should go free. That's how it works, sometimes the bad guy gets away but better that then innocent men rotting in jail undeservedly. Welcome to America.

Pretty sweet deal for the camera company. What idiot thought that was a good deal for the police dept?
Probably the same guy who is on "medical leave."

[citation][nom]captainnemojr[/nom]I'm glad Texas banned speed cameras. If only the red light cameras would get banned as well :-\[/citation]
love that there are no speed cameras, though red light cameras are a good idea, keeps me from getting T-boned by some idiot running a red light. but i wish we would stop putting up red lights on streets that WERE FINE WITH STOP SIGNS!!

[citation][nom]timbozero[/nom]Sell it back to them for $91 plus incured costs[/citation]

That will not help pay the increase in his insurance premiums over the next few years.

Gotta watch those domains...

I lost my domain to a porno site (my fault), then a few years later - my domain was available again and I was able to retrieve it.

[citation][nom]eeide[/nom]There is research that shows that the Red Light cameras on intersections actually cause more accidents. People slam on their brakes when the light turns yellow no matter what in fear of getting a ticket. I would have to go do some digging, but there were a couple intersections in Seattle that had that very problem.[/citation]
In fact, I've read reports of certain intersections in my area where the City cheats on the yellow lights (decreasing the time) to increase revenue. Illegal, but who's going to stop them? They just claim it was a mistake and set it back. Cash cows, no safety in mind whatsoever.

Sell them the website back for the exact amount the city has earned from the speed camera that caught you, from the when it was installed to when you received your ticket. I would call that a nice way of making things balance out a little.

And why would you care if the car in front slammed on their brakes? You are following in a safe distance, not tailgating (which is illegal anyway) and at a speed you can fully control your vehicle? Or are you not?... like the guy said before, you did the crime you pay the fine!

[citation][nom]Pyroflea[/nom]HAH, flawless victory. How the hell can you go >42 days without noticing your website doesn't work?[/citation]

Because many, AND I MEAN *MANY* police officers are bona-fide morons.

After encountering many officers in hospitals that I support in the course of my employment, I am often genuinely surprised who is allowed to carry a gun and drive a cruiser, let alone respond to someone in need of help. (i.e. If I called 911, I would NOT want some of these people to arrive to "help", as I believe some would do more harm than good, due to the total-ineptness I witness daily.)

[citation][nom]pojih[/nom]http://www.clickondetroit.com/news [...] etail.htmlspecifically about Michigan - from a police officer.Anyone else notice that no matter what the speed limit police officers are 'safe' going 20+ over it? I live on a 25mph street and constantly see police officers going at least 40 - no lights or anything. Whose pulling them over?[/citation]

Nobody. Haven't you heard... Cops are above the law. It's more of a suggestion to them.
They're just another "gang." ;o)

[citation][nom]TA152H[/nom]56 in a 45 is ridiculous to get a ticket for. Keep in mind most of these speed limits were imposed when cars handled far worse than modern ones, and many just to conserve gas when cars were more efficient at lower speeds. Some roads are just begging for a higher speed limit, but the police keep it lower so they can rob people. It's absurd.[/citation]

I hate cops, but have run into many situations where the the conditions for road posted speeds and the posted limit were actually in reverse, (i.e. needing to do 35 in a 50 because the laws of physics demand it).
At that speed, what we are arguing almost becomes a term of ratios, like someone else mentioned: 56:45 vs. 87:70. These speeds, weather, road conditions make a lot of decisions in how I drive.

And I have never been pulled over for speeding and received a speeding ticket for nearly 20 years on the road.

Excellent. Now may be Brian can negotiate a deal with the police dept to void his $90 speeding ticket by providing website maintenance service to the PD website (since the regular guy is on long-term leave).
