Memory install...HELP!

Was given a Dell Inspiron 600m Laptop. It came with only 512MB of memory so I'm wanting to install 2 GB. I have managed to install 1 GB in one slot but if I add the other 1GB card into the empty slot, the laptop will attempt to start then shut down. What gives?? I do know that the Laptop is supposed to handle 2GB of memory!

Yes both are identical bought them at the same time.

Haven't tried both alone...Will try them.

OK, tried both sticks in the DIMM B slot...Both worked. However, when I tried them in the DIMM A slot neither one worked.

Talked to Dell Tech and the S.O.B. tried to sell me one of "their" memory sticks. Isn't that some crap? He said that the Kingstone(s) 1GB isn't compatible with the laptop...The kicker is that it came with 512mb Kingstone!!
