I'm looking for a minecraft/gaming laptop for my daughter, but one where she can also do word processing for school. When I try to read up on what is needed for a gaming computer it starts to get confusing. I'd like to keep the cost to $1,500.00 or less

You don't need the redline boost, but this will be the only time you can have it done. Yes 64 bit, and windows 7 or 8.1 can be upgraded to windows 10 for free. 8gb is enough. This laptop is currently the only one available on the market that also has the ability to upgrade the graphics card. More RAM can be added later or a M.2 SATA SSD if the time ever comes.

She plays a few others, too, interactive ones with other players. I understand laptops aren't the best for gaming, but she needs to be able to take it with her. I wanted to get her a decent one, as I suspect her gaming will change and I'd like this one to last more than a year.

This one is the most powerful laptop you can get for under $1500: http://www.xoticpc.com/force-msi-1781-221045-980m-msi-gt72-barebones-p-8111.html?wconfigure=yes You will have to make sure to add an operating system in the configuration settings, and it will come out to right at $1500. Your daughter will love you, as it is very customizable, and they can even engrave her name into it for you. There are some cheaper options, but this one is a bargain for performance to price in comparison.

No, it is fully built, those are just extra options. You only need to add an OS towards the bottom of the page. They have a global tracking feature too that you can add, so if it were to get stolen it can be tracked anywhere. It's only $25, and a good investment.

I'm not sure I would go with a non-big-name brand for a laptop for my daughter. If she has problems, I would suggest she go with someone like Dell. Here is a link to a great system that is a 17" laptop and it includes Windows 10 and a 2TB HDD and 16Gb RAM. for less than $1100. At least with Dells, you can pick them up from Best Buy or buy direct from Dell. This offer even includes a 32" LG flat panel TV for free! She could take that to college as well!

You are paying for that 32" TV at that price. That dell should be more around $600-700 for it's hardware.

Dell and gaming doesn't mix in my opinion. XD

I would rather go with Alienware than Dell when it comes to gaming; even though they're the same company, but pretty much both have different focus. :)

Yes, MSI is a 'big name' but not in manufacturing laptops or PC's. For a college student, having a 'big name' system might prove reassuring and able to get help, via online or over the phone easier. Not to mention a 980m isn't required to play Minecraft. This laptop will most likely be used for school related stuff Word, Excel, browsing web, watching videos, etc. I would bet that the intent of this system is to allow her to play Minecraft in her downtime and be able to handle school work.
