Monitor won't display

Satellite L875D-S7332 Monitor Not Displaying - This is my daughters laptop (which she uses for college) and last night the mouse/touch pad quit working. Some friends helped her to get it working. When she got back from library, it did it again. She did the same thing her friends showed her (I don't know what that was). It may have worked again this time, but we cannot tell as now the monitor screen has gone blank/black and will not display. When we turn it on, we can hear it running and we have led lights, but no visual. Really don't want to have to do a factory reset and am unsure of doing that anyways as it might not work and we'd lose all of her work. Please advise.

P.S.: She updated windows a couple of days ago.

I would try the laptop via an external monitor and see if you get anything displayed, or not.

I think you will need to reload Windows at this point.

I will try that later this evening. Haven't connected on a laptop like this before....the last time I did it, it was on an old desktop...probably 20 years ago! Hope it's still pretty much the same.

Will let you know what I find out.
