I have a hp pavilion dv6 notebook. When I look up it's product number, which is A6Y49UA##ABA, It comes up as HP Pavilion dv6-6c10us.
I want to replace the motherboard, because the processor is soldered into it, and I want more speed.
The number for the motherboard is 665282-001.
I want to know if it's possible to replace the motherboard with one that has a different number than 665282-001. I found a couple with a different number, and they look like they should fit perfectly. They ones with a different number are able to use a faster processor. I did find something saying that if the number isn't matched, the computer might not work. Is that true?
Thank you,
Russell

The dv6's that I've looked up don't have the CPU soldered to the motherboard. All of the replacement Motherboards I could find the graphics chip is soldered, but the processor isn't... You should be able to upgrade the processor itself if that's your goal.

Many of the DV6 models came with either the AMD or Intel processor - yours is AMD.

Here's a list of dv6 MoBo part numbers. Not necessarily exact matches for yours, just the dv6 model in general.

665282-001
641485-001
665282-001
650852-001
644623-001
650852-001
665352-001
650799-001
665346-001
665342-001

Issues that you'll run into when replacing with different parts: Optional components; Make sure the existing case can support the optional components like HDMI, VGA, USB, etc (There has to be a space for the connections on the sides). Fan/heatsink placement must be exactly the same (There's no room for error on a laptop!)

Do your homework before purchasing, and make sure there's some type of return policy, just in case!

Have you considered reflowing the processor and buying a new BGA chip? Might be cheaper than a new mobo.
