MozBackup taking 4 days to backup thunderbird

If i try to use Mozbackup to backup my thunderbird emails it runs for 3 to 4 days until i get sick of it and end the process , it hasnt frozen as the screen still shows activity at the bottom.

anyone got suggestions how to make it work faster ?

i am backing up just emails only

i backed up address books and settings seperately which worked fine

I know some people just copy and save the thunderbird profiles folder but if i do that it shows as being only 3.7 Gig whereas i know that all my email folders take up at least 18 gig of files.

My computer has a few separate folders for email storage ( 18 gig total ) which i would like to compact but not until i do a standard backup first.
