I just bought an album off of MSN Music. It transferred and played on
my AudioVox SmartPhone 2003 with no hitch (it has WMP 10) -- however,
Media Player would not even send the music to my PocketPC (Toshiba
755). Is that because PocketPC is WMP 9? Is there any way to get this
to work? Possible to play purchased tracks on PocketPC?

Thanks
Vincent

Thank you very much -- one note, the website you pointed me to
mentioned that MSN Music cannot be played on a SmartPhone... I have had
not problem at all on WMP10 on my AudioVox 5600SMT, works great -- just
my old PPC.

Yes, alas WMP 9 does not support the Janus DRM solution in MSN Music.
See http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=31725 for
more info. One solution is to burn a CD from your music, and rip that in
a non-protected format.

Hmmm....maybe I'm missing something here :) You mention down there that you
were unable to sync and send an album purchased from msn, from your computer
running wm 10 to your ppc running wm 9 and then play it on your ppc right?
If I'm understanding this correctly, you should be able to do that, as I just
did it myself. I used wm 10 on my desktop and transfered to my ppc many
tracks from an album I purchased off of msn, and they not only transfered
flawlessly, but played as well. Now if you're talking about syncing up to
the msn music website with your ppc, now that is a different story :) a
story of which I have no details :)

Which senario from above is correct? Are you just simply trying to sync
up, transfer files, and play them on your ppc or the other senario listed?

You're quite right. But that's because your 5600SMT *has* WMP10. It's
European sibling, the Orange C500 has a different ROM, containing
WMP9, and can't play those files. Neither can my T-Mobile SDA, but the
T-Mobile SDA Music (released a month later) can, since it has WMP10.

The trouble will be, that you have DRM "digital rights management"
attached to the files, which tells them where they can be copied to
(eg 2 copies to CD, no copying to portable devices etc, expires in 20
days, only 40 plays max etc)

The thing is WM9 on PPC doesn't support the DRM you need, and WM10 on
the desktop knows this (it can detect the device player capabilities).
So to stop you 'breaking' the DRM, it prevents you syncing them.

About the only way is to copy to CD (if you have that right with those
tracks) and then load the CD into WMP10 on the desktop, then copy them
across to the device from the CD via media player on the desktop
