Multiple duplicates in Itunes

I have my Itunes library stored on my external HDD and there are anywhere from 2 - 5 copies of each song. When I import any music, itunes is showing each copy. Is there an easy efficient way to eliminate the duplicates?

I had multiple problems with my iTunes library including duplicate tracks. iTunes way of showing duplicates is not the best. I recommend using a duplicate remover tool. I found about such a program from youtube via the following: Delete duplicates in iTunes.

The app is free and it helped me get rid of iTunes duplicates.

Ya I have well over 4000 duplicates. I tried to do what you recommended nikorr but it didn't work because they're all showing the same date as they're on an external.
