Multiple Programming Providers

Is it possible to have more than one programming provider through a
VideoCipher decoder? I have a good package through one programming
provider that does not have a good track record for providing al la
Carte. Yet I see another programming provider that has an excellent a la
Carte package. Is it possible to call each provider separately and
activate ( decode ) different packages without having any problems?

I see that you've received many responses saying yes.
However, there is a slight "however" involved.
Many years ago, I was using 2 providers. At one point, I decided to
terminate one of the subscriptions, switching things over to the other
provider. What happened to me was that when the provider I was
termnating turned off my subscriptions that I had through THEM, they
ended up turning off ALL my subscriptions, and getting a re-hit was only
temporary, because they must send out the termination thing multiple
times, so for a couple months, I was calling up for re-hits about every
week, because all my subscriptions kept going dark. I've been told that
this should not have happened, but it did. I guess that it's possible
that the provider that I terminated was getting revenge.
Anyway, as long as you keep the subscriptions current, there
shouldn't be a problem, but problems are possible when you leave one of
the providers.

Technically, this shouldn't be possible. They did something else to
your module. Which provider was this?

I think the one I terminated was Netlink, and I think the one I kept was
TurnerVision, although I also was using another provider in the same
timeframe, Super something... the one that did showtime, etc. I ended up
switching everything to Turnervision, until that changed hands, and have
been using the place in NH since, NHE or whatever it is called.
OOPs... I just checked the web page for NHE, and it no longer
works??? I just called them a few weeks ago, and now the web page is
gone. Anyone know if they went out of business or something??? If
they did, I guess I'm in the market for a new provider. :-(

All the same entity now, and were for quite some time before it was made
official (were in the same building, used the same database, etc.) I
think that probably had a lot to do with your problem.

I have had trouble with other xcity pages as well. Try calling them again,
or ask NPS (NHE was a NPS reseller.

I know they all merged now. I may be wrong, but I think initially
TurnerVision was located somewhere like West Virginia or something, not
where the other ones were. Seems like Netlink was somewhere out west,
like Colorado or Arizona or something. When they merged, is when I
switched. At least the people you talked to weren't co-located.
I had all sorts of problems with Netlink. Once I called and ordered
programming, and paid by credit card, then in a couple weeks, my
subscriptions were cut off. I called up and complained, and they turned
them back on, then they turned them off again. I later found out that
they had billed my credit card the wrong amount, about 5$ less than they
should have, then, since the payment wasn't enough, they terminated
service, then when I called up to complain they reinstated it, then the
computer still said not enough $s, and cut me off. I finally got a bill
which showed about 7 transactions all within a couple days with them
applying $5 penalties for non-payment, then re-instating service and
removing the penalty, then applying the penalty again, all because they
typed in the wrong number. Took me a month to straighten it out.

Correct.

Turnervision and Netlink occupied the same building and shared computer
databases at least six months before their merger was announced. I had
a friend who would be on the Turnervision phones one day, and on the
Netlink phones the next day. She would get quite confused. She said the
delay in making it official was...taxes. What else?

Turnervision was indeed in West Virginia. Netlink I don't know about,
although now all three are in Tulsa OK, which has always been
Superstar's hometown. When the 3 different databases were being used,
it caused all kinds of weird problems. Shouldn't have any problems
with multiple providers now.

It wasn't a matter of being on one phone or the other. In actuality, when
the phone
call first came in, it could be for Superstar, for Netlink, or for
TurnerVision, you
didn't know until you saw the 3digit code come up on the screen. And that's
where
the somewhat infamous "Thank you for calling your satellite provider..."
arose..
If you don't know what company they're calling for, don't say a company name
in the greeting! Nowadays most people are aware of the merger, although
there
are a few left that don't realise it... those are the people you see saying
"Psh,
Superstar turned me off for not paying my bill! Screw them, I'm calling
Netlink!"

This was *before* they officially merged. She would *still* answer the
phone as "Turnervision" or "Netlink" or "Superstar", but she didn't know
when she left home what company she would be "with" that day. They still
had different 800 numbers. They were still "separate" companies in the
same building.
