First try right clicking on the desktop background and then click "Screen Resolution". In this new window click "Advanced Settings". Next click on the "Monitor" tab and make sure that your system isn't set to show at different Hertz for when on battery and when on the charger cord. You may want to click the "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" as well.

Did you ever figure this one out? Mine does it, too, when it's unplugged, regardless of battery percentage. I'm thinking it's just time for a new battery.
