Solution
I'll suggest starting with a reset, with battery out and laptop unplugged, press and hold the power button for ~30 seconds, put battery back in, plug in power adapter, see where you get.
If there was a power event (brown-out, surge...) a polyfuse may have "blown" (polyfuses are nice because they reset themselves) and in that case simply waiting and trying again "fixes" things (wait time can vary but shouldn't be more than a few hours)

Does this reset the whole computer? What happens to all my files on the hard drive?

Hi, having the same problems with my Asus notebook. Doing the reset did not work.. I tried a few times last night, with longer and longer holds of the bower button while unplugged and no battery. Nothing has worked. Tried again this morning same issues persist. When plugged in the AC adapter on the actual battery pack is lit green, but the computer has zero indicators of life - no lights on when plugged in. Not making any sounds. I tried a few different methods of discharging the 'electric shock'. All for not so far. Help would be immensely appreciated!

@Michael_86 The most likely problem you're facing is a broken power jack - look up broken power jack along with the model number of your laptop through your favorite search engine. You'll likely find videos describing replacement along with a source for the replacement part - in some cases the jack is a modular affair requiring little skill to replace, in other cases it may be soldered to the motherboard which would require some basic soldering skills to replace. There are also services that specialize in that repair

I literally had the same thing happen to me with my ASUS TP500l. It just shut off when I plugged in my headsets and now it won't turn or nor would it charge. I cant even remove the battery pack and the 30 second power button reset isn't working out either.

Ufff - well, I would really see that it is totally uncharged this may help a lot - so let it some days and then try to turn it on - if this is not working, get to a specialist.

I just replace my laptop with new motherboard 2 weeks ago.,and it seem the problem is happening again.

When i turn on the laptop (with only plugged with AC adapter), nothings happen even there's no indicator lights on. But when i attach the battery (without attach to AC adapter), the laptop is turn on normally. Then i tried plug the power adapter back to the laptop, it seem that it doesn't charge the battery. Most weirdly, i pull out the battery (still plugged to the AC adapter), the laptop is running fine.

Really waiting for reply! Thx.

This is EXACTLY what happened to my ASUS X43S. No indicators or lights on the laptop while the power adaptor has the green light on. Tried the remove battery, unplug laptop and hold power button for may times and still no luck. Apparently looking at the response for the quoted post from the technician, I recall that my laptop had a loose connection to the power source - it would only charge the laptop if the power cord were connected in a specific angle. I need my laptop back and I am not that technical to solder a pin to set it right etc. I live in Singapore and if any sort of help will be greatly appreciated. Please advise. Thanks, Ganesh

my friend gave me his k55 asus to fix it had a black screen tried all the fixes above in the end bought a pre-programmed bios chip and replaced it and the laptop runs fine now.
it seems the problem was a update to the bios from asus that caused the issue. (the chip cost £14 of ebay and had to get a guy that fixes mobile phones to solder the chip for £10 as the chip is really small)
hope this helps anybody with the same issue as asus sevices are no help!!

This worked for me:

hold down the on button (for 30 sec or so) and then at the same time (while still holding the on button down) press ctrl, alt, del !
