my headphone sound is low

when i connect my headphone to my P61 motherboard the sound i got is very low, iam wondering if my onboard sound is bad or my headphone is bad

what do you think guys ?

It might be the motherboard's sound chip isn't providing your headphones enough power. My ATH M50s sound much louder when connected to my laptop vs my A55-BME motherboard. Try using a different source and see if the volume changes.

could be that the headphones have low sensitivity or high ohmage, and the onboard audio cant drive them. You can get a fairly cheap asus xonar DX which has a headphone amp.

first check windows volume and application volume levels. if both are at levels which should be loud then it may be that your motherboard is not able to power them correctly.

what headphones are you trying to use?

depending on what you have you may be able to get away with a cheap card such as a xonar dg ($30) or as crowe suggested the dx ($80)

however, i also second the idea of testing them out on another device as razerz suggested.
