My laptop screen is cracked and I cant connect to another monitor via a vga cable.

Its a Compaq Presario CQ57 laptop. I really need this thing working. Does anybody know how I can get it to work on an external monitor without buying a new screen? OR a cheaper alternative to a new screen. My settings prevent the use of another monitor.

Hook up the monitor, keyboard and mouse to the laptop, turn it on and close the lid quickly right after that. It should detect the monitor as the only display.
