my laptop wont turn on unless plugged in

I bought this laptop and it wouldn't power on so I plugged it in for a few hours and then tried again and it came on but when I unplugged it it turned off im talkin straight black screen. I have a battery in it but it wont turn on unless plugged in what do I do?

It sounds like you need to replace the battery. If it is a new laptop, exchange it for a replacement.
