My RCA TV has a single audio output jack. The audio splitter I got at Wal-Mart that is supposed to work with my TV doesn't fit snugly and the sound quality is awful. It is not obvious how to find the correct fitting audio splitter. The non-DVR box Comcast sent to enable Netflix has no audio output jacks and they pleaded ignorance if a Netflix one with audio jacks exists. They just said to intercept the sound from the TV. Our other DVR boxes with R and L audio jacks work like a charm for both my wireless headset and my hearing aid audio intercepting equipment. Both solutions bypass TV sound completely and my wife appreciates not having the TV volume I would need to actually understand the audio. For music I add a little TV sound. Is there a device that I can capture the audio before the coax cable enters the jack-less box or can I capture the audio by a HMDI device between the box and the TV?

Solution
If your TV only has a mono audio output then the quality problem may not be the splitter but the TV audio. Before stereo TV they paid no attention to audio quality since TV speakers were lousy anyway.
You can make the splitter fit better by carefully reducing the diameter of the cylindrical ground connection for a tighter fit.
Or you can use an HDMI audio extraction box.

If you have other sources then an HDMI switcher with audio extraction will work for all of them...
