My Odyssey1 Cables are Melting

I recently took a peek at my Odyssey 1 system and made a disturbing
discovery. The rubber on the controller cables is "sweating" an odd
ooze. It actually appears as beads of sweat on the cables.
It seems that the rubber is breaking down chemically. Anyone ever seen
this before, and know of any way to stop it?

Well, I am also the owner of an O^1 and have not seen the problem that
you are referring to. It seems, though, that after a period of time
(it's been about 35 years) that the inevitable would happen and the
rubber insulation would begin to break down.
