My space bar keeps shutting my laptop off please help!

Every time I press the space bar on my asus laptop it goes into sleep mode. I’m in school and it’s a big hassle. How do I make it stop?

Hi

Open Control Panel and select Keyboard.
Select the Hardware Tab.
Click the Properties Button.
Click the Change Settings button.
Select the Power management Tab.
Uncheck the Allow this device to wake the computer option.
Click OK/Apply/OK.

Try it from Device Manager. Your keyboard should be listed under "Keyboards"; double click on that, then right click on the keyboard that shows up and select "Properties".

If the Power Management trick doesn't work, go back to the "Driver" tab in the Properties window and uninstall the driver, then restart the laptop.

I’m so computer illiterate but I’m following directions to the T. It’s still doing the same thing

Honestly, I've never seen this. Even if you're out of warranty, are you able to contact Asus support?

FYI - Laptop keyboards are usually regulated by the computer's EC firmware. If there's an update for that, it's worth a shot.
