My toshiba laptop won't come on it says to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. What do I do?

It sounds like the hardrive (hdd) may be having an issue. Remove the battery & power and then remove and reinstall the drive. Next see it it is detected in the bios. If it is seen you can see if it will boot and if it doesnt then you can boot from a boot cd/dvd and run diagnostics on the hdd.
