Need a low end Oculus Rift compatible laptop...

I am in the market for a new laptop, and I would like one that has been confirmed working with Oculus Rift. It seems like there are compatibility problems if the HDMI output isn't powered directly by the GPU, so that is key.

Can anyone please recommend a laptop that you know works with the Rift? Not looking to run bleeding edge games, just simple visualization demos, Virtual Desktop, movies, etc... So a 960m should be enough (budget is around 800-1000).

Its not about running it at high settings. A laptop like that will not be able to maintain 90fps(90hz) to maintain a smooth picture.

The ONLY Oculus approved laptops are the new ones with a full desktop 980 in them.

Why are you gonna spend 600 dollars on a device that you would only be able to use 5% of its pontential? It's a waste of cash. Get a laptop with a 980 in it or a desktop with a 970.

To be fair, the $600 price tag was only recently released. Back in Nov 2015 the company making the Oculus Rift was still shooting for around $350. Which I have to say was overly optimistic given the specs of the thing...

You have a couple of options. The first is to get a laptop with a GTX 980(yes they exist) but they are upwards of $2500. Another option is like a alienware 13($950) + amplifier($200) and a gtx 970 card($300) that will be under $1500. Unfortunately asking an oculus rift compatible desktop under $1000 is hard, so forget a laptop under $1000. Hope I helped!
