Need audio help

I have a newish LG 32 inch tv in the bedroom. I just bought a 2.1 speaker system that will not hook up to the tv. The speakers have 2 options. 3.5 headphone jack and white and red. The tv has no red and white audio out ports. Only audio in. There is a headphone jack but it says "service only". It also has a digital audio port but that's not a factor because the speakers will not accept it. I've tried pretty much everything. I can't really get anything expensive because my wife don't like spending money on this kind of stuff. Please help.

Take it back and get one with an optical port on it.

Is there a converter that I could buy? I used to know all this stuff but then came the family life and now I'm catching up. I'm currently trying to talk the wife in to buying a new tv for my daughter's room and getting one that has a 3.5 headphone jack and then just swap them out.

Your speakers will have to have their own volume control since the optical out of the TV is fixed.
