Need child proof software suggestion.

Well my girlfriends son discovered hardcore porn sites and sex personals today. So he lost his laptop for a little while.

Were looking for something to put on there to block stuff and to keep a record of what he see's. Something free preferrable. But we also wanted something that doesnt block too much, like I know some porn blockers go crazy and block stuff that isnt even close to porn.

Ive never had to use anything like this so I dont know where to start.

Personally I wouldn't try and restrict him too much. It will only encourage him to spend more of his time trying to see how he can bypass the security you put for him. But if you really want to, then see if your anti-virus program allows you to block sites.

Stealth. I came here asking a specific question about a piece of software. I didnt ask for your parenting insight, mostly due to the fact you have absolutely no idea about the kid at all.

Install OpenDNS, for a start. It will restrict access using an established list with DNS filtering. Now a free service, you can sign up at opendns.com. It is not completely effective, but it's better than nothing.

Any solution will only be temporary, good until he finds away around it. So keep that in mind when buying software for the problem. And any effective solution will take time and effort to configure, monitor, review, etc. So be prepared for it.

And test what you have done. You don't want to leave glaring holes. He will find them quickly.

The big question is ... what will you do if you find something? How will you effectively deal with it? Do you want the hostility that comes with an effective program? Or can you teach your son to use the Internet responsibly?
