Need laptop suggestions

Hello TH members,
I come to you all today, because my sister is going to be a junior in high school next year and my dad is looking to buy her a new laptop.
She doesn't need anything too powerful, it will mainly be used for web surfing and other researching, as well as writing research papers among other every day things.
It needs to be durable and with good battery life. Preferably 15 in. and not apple.
Would like it to be less than $500.

Good for regular everyday use (ie web browsing, word processing and running non-hardware intensive programs) plus the integrated gpu is more that adequate for playing movies at 1080p when hooked up to a TV. CPU is a newer model, uses less power, and runs up to 4 threads making productivity and multitasking a breeze.
