New 8 series GPU's in laptops vs single or dual 7 series

I'm not sure wether to go with the new 8 series GPU's in the new MSI laptops or to just get the older ones with 7 series GPU's or a different brand with dual GPU's. How good are the aurous laptops with the dual 765's. Max budget is about 2000 so I have room

the aorus X7 is a gigabyte laptop - they normally have very high build quality when it comes to their products.
however the SLI solution is going to produce a lot of heat and that's why I would go for a single GPU config.
the gtx 765M SLI is about 10% better than the 870M but 10% worse than the 880M - with that being said there are more powerful laptops than the 765M.

So would you say that the higher 8 series GPU's are worth it for the 10% performance increase with the higher price or would a 780m be the better way to go

well honestly the aorus is slightly more expensive - the biggest difference is the weight. The aorus is marketed as a slim laptop and is not made to be "the ultimate gaming laptop". But the aorus is found for just over 2k, and yet the xoticpc force laptop is only $1650.

If it were me, I would decide on the full features - do I want it to be slim or can it be a monster, do I want it to look like "X", or is spec all that matters. what size etc. before I made a decision.

I am looking for a very powerful computer because I will be using engineering software and 3d simulations as well as heavy gaming when I'm away from my desktop, so the aorus sounds out of the picture. Definately for that much with only minimal increases in performance. I think a 780m will probably work fine. In that case I'm not completely limited to MSI with the 800 series too. But I would probably stick with asus or MSI because I trust their producs. So I want an ssd for boot drive plenty of storage space at least 8 gigs of ram i7 of course and at least 17 inch screen also one that is a somewhat quiet jet engine, I know it's hard to do with the bigger laptops, but are there any that are quieter than others?

Honestly If weight isn't one of your concerns then I would highly recommend the asus rog laptops - more specially the G750 JS model - it comes to around $1800 - runs an 870M so it's plenty powerful, RAM is either 8 or 16GB - you'd have $200 to upgrade to an SSD. the build quality is the highest you get in the business - I could go on, but its probably the best here.
