I will need a new high speced laptop minimum of i5 but here is my question...

I have worked out a configuration which is 8GB RAM, dual HD (1st drive: 80GB ssd and 2nd drive 500GB plattered), bright HD 17" backlit screen (1900x1200)

REGARDLESS of what I will be using it for, I need to know 1) What computer has those specifications (Well known brand or not) 2) What experiences have you had with the manufacturer in replacing warrantied parts and have the parts been new or refurbished

I have found Dell, Asus, Toshiba and HP all have laptops in this range but not with dual HD but more importantly they replace with refurbished parts.

What have you found?

Hi Tom,

While I was unable to find a laptop that meets all your required specs, the Sony Vaio EC series comes pretty close. It has a 17.3" screen and up to 8 GB of RAM (and many other valuable specs) What do you think?

Thanks Isabella for being the singular replee to my post

When it comes to your "war stories" people - you don't exactly shine do you .. :)

After a lot of comparative research, I have decided to go with the Clevo w870cu due to the fact that it has the config I need to do my job.

I have found out that MOST if not ALL replacement parts will be either refurbished or repaired. No-one seems to replace notebook components with new parts, so that was a revelation to me

And btw - I also discovered that most notebooks are made for the big name brands and sold on ....
