I'm working on a Gateway Laptop, Model MX3414.
Power light comes on
Optical Drive will spin with a disk in and the optical drive light comes on and sounds like it's reading it.
Hard drive spins, no hard drive light, just spins, can't hear the heads moving.
CPU Fan does not spin
Does not POST
Have tried:
Replacing RAM
Replacing CPU Fan
Removing Modem and Wifi Card
Different Power Supply
Plugging in an external monitor.
Have not tried a new CMOS battery. Could that cause these symptoms? I'll see if I can locate one.
Any suggestions?
I don't have any AMD processors laying around that will fit this laptop.
I was thinking the CPU or Motherboard is fried, but not sure which.
Any thoughts on what else to try? I'm going to go to my storage to check my recycle bin for an AMD processor, but doubt I have one.
Sorry to mention this last, but when plugging in the power supply, it whines. I changed power supplies and it does not whine. Either way, same syptoms. I'm thinking something got fried.
Thanks
