"...Phone With a 41-megapixel Sensor"
and then
"At high-resolution (38 megapixel maximum)..."

Kinda like the all new Ford F-150 now with a 200gallon tank (25 usable)....

39MP from a compact cam; tiny lens and all.
So you get low light noise of course and you edit these 38MP images on a 2MP (1920x1080) TV screen we get offered for review over and over.

I smell a PR stunt and MP 'bragging rights' for the technologically ignorant again.
I rather stick with an 8MP SLR and a big fat lens attached to it !

Read about the tech behind it's camera before making ignorant comments. Nokia has always been serious about their flagship camera phones.

Also 41 MP sensor means nothing if your camera lens is only 2mm in diameter. This is completely a PR stunt.

Even good quality digital cameras get blasted by the experts for having sensors too high for the lens type. Higher MP means nothing if the lens isn't capable of filling the sensor surface with enough light, you just end up with a grainy, flat photo.

My digital camera has a 14MP lens and I kind of wish it only had a 12 for a cleaner picture.

"No word from Nokia if it plans to develop a beefy camera phone for its primary smartphone OS."

Actually Nokia people have said that the tech will be coming to their "other smartphone platforms".

[citation][nom]builder4[/nom]Next from Nokia, a one jillion megapixel camera with a sensor the size of a pinhead.[/citation]
Sensor size is 1/1.2". Thats bigger than most dedicated compact cams out there, including the high end ones like the Canon S100, Panasonic LX-5, Nikon P7100 etc.

(Note: the square sensor is capable of 41 megapixels, but it's confined to 38 megapixels maximum when forced into the standard photo aspect ratios.)

You must have missed that part ;)

Well, knowing nokia, it will probably be with a fixed focus lens :D

That's what I hate about nokia, I'd be happy to use a E7 if it wasn't for the fixed focus camera. The phone is absolutely brilliant except for the lens and the OS.

Holy Megapixels batman!!
But lets be honest...
You can get a super high mega pixel picture but it will still look like crap if you don't have a good lense/optics.

Who cant say that this new sensor don't have higher sensitivity than the older gen sensors before remarking that the optics is to small to let enough light to it....

I don't get what are all the moans about? If you read more it's 5MP photos with ability to "zoom in". If they do it right they will set a new standard for 5MPix phone camera shots. I have 5MP old and 10MP new phone. Sam s$it in terms of quality. Had other phone with 3.2MP camera and photos are crisp and well exposed. Nokia has a decent enough record in phone camera picture (and HD movie) quality. Can't wait to see full review. Now go on, thumb me down :)

Wth is a fixed "focused" lens? You mean fixed focal length lens? Nokia 808 is not comparable to Nokia E7. This phone, and all it's predecessors in the last 5 years have all been auto focus.

i got the n8 and its a good camera but it got terrible auto focus, i need to refocus 2-3 times before i get a clear pic. well im actually happy they finally got Symbian working 1 year of blinding pain, calls could not get answered and phone total lock out but the last update fixed all but the damn focus.
