I was taking pictures and finished by turning it off but it acted as if I had removed the battery. Good and charged battery, card in, all in the proper mode; the on/off slide switch seemd to have just quit operating. It has the lens extended but nothing seems to function. The is no image on the screen, nothing. What now? Camera repair shop?
Thanks for the help!

Suggestion I've seen for this condition range from taking the battery out for a minute or two to banging the camera on the table.

I would try to check that the battery hasn't just died -- a dealer may be prepared to pop in a replacement just to test that.

Check that the lens extension looks normal -- not out of true -- if it looks wrong try pressing it back in gently.

If it is just the switch it shouldn't cost a fortune to fix -- but these are complicated devices and what seems obvious may not be -- replacement is often cheaper.
