Olympus E420 camera dead?

My Olympus E420 camera suddenly does not swithch on anymore. I have a second E420 camera and I checked the battery: it is well.
The one that is broken, worked again for about just half a minute (twice) when i put in a fully charged battery.
But now it even does not do that anymore.
I scratched the batterycontacts in the camera a bit but i don't think they were dirty.

What could it be?

A digital camera, and especially a digital SLR, is crammed full of electronic parts, chips and circuits so it could be a fault in any one of them that's causing the problem.
