Opinions on dell xps 15

So i've been laptop shopping recently and I think i've decided to get a dell xps 15, but i'm a bit torn on what configuration, I should get. So i'm pretty much going to getting this laptop because, because i'm a mechanical engineering student, so my old inspiron 1525 isn't going to really cut it anymore.

I've seen very good review for this xps 15 overall build quality, good speaker, alot of features what i'm torn on is between getting it with the older core i5 460 and gt420m for right at $800, or spending the extra cash to upgrade to a core i7 2720Q and a gt525m for like $1050. So what it comes down to is a sandy bridge quad core worth $250 over a dual core nahelam for engineering/mobile gaming

not looking for a laptop that expensive, and it's not really the kind of laptop i'm looking for, really just asking for opinions is the extra money worth an upgrade to sandy bridge

for gaming I'd spend the extra 250. For engineering you probably wouldn't notice a huge difference granted if you're doing 3D renders working with say solidworks you might notice quite a difference with the i7 and the 525m.

What it comes down to is how much you want to game. If you're looking at fairly hardcore gaming the $250 is money well spent imho

$250 is a cheap buy-in to the current generation, you won't be sorry.

i had read a thread that intel SANDY BRIDGE processors have a problem and it damages usb 3.o ports and 6 gb esata

i was going to buy core i7 2620m but i read an other thread of dell this one

now im going to buy dell xps with core i7 740QM it also hav everything latest usb 3 ports blu ray etc etc

hepl me out should i buy it or intel sandy bridge processor

well first a i7 2620m is actually a dual core, and i honestly don't think they would continue to ship faulty hardware, at least i hope so because i ended up up getting that dell xps with a 2420m

Not quite. The issue was with the motherboards, not the processors. It affected the SATA 3 Gbps controller and only that controller. The SATA 6Gbps controller was unaffected. This issue has also been resolved and laptops that are shipping now should not have the defect.
