Outlook intermittently refuses to send or receive mail. I get error 0800ccc92.
The send receive dialog says sending completed but it hangs on receiving.
When I first start the PC outlook automatically loads and does a send and receive with no problems. After 30 Mins it does another send/receive and sometimes this throws up the error, but not always, currently about 90% of the time. if I cancel all the dialogs and do a manual send/receive it will usually work OK, but not always. Re-starting Outlook sometimes cures the problen and on re-start it will do send/receive OK but not always.
This is driving me nuts. I have contacted BT technical and they say it is outlook. I have Created a new profile, Re-installed Office, I am running SP2, and all the recommended updates, checked and re-checked the mail settings, tried various combinations of SSL, PORT numbers, tried logging on with my user mane, but it makes no difference. I can access my mail directly over the web, but this is an inconvenient PITA!
Any Ideas anyone?

That error seems to be a password error on the server, it may also be when your system is trying to re-establish the connection when it's already connected. As to exactly what your system is doing when the error happens, you may want to check event log on the computer for errors.

Thank you for the response _9

OK,
I am looking at the event viewer. Not sure what I am looking for, there is a load of stuff in here.
Given that it has occurred again this evening, and narrowing it down to events in the last hour, would I be correct in thinking it is the DNS client events I should be looking at?
If so; then I have this as a DNS client event " Name resolution for the name NPI514B22.home timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded."
the timing is about right for the last error.
Strange thing is that at the top of the list is a DNS error referring to twitter "Name resolution for the name syndication.twitter.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." There are several of these errors listed, but I don't use twitter, never have.

Well it has done it again after 2 1/2 hours. So as send and receive is set to check every 30 minutes it has completed 5 successful send receive cycles before giving an error. I can't find anything in the event log with correct time.
So anyone; any ideas? BT says it is an outlook problem because I can log in directly.

I doubt it's Outlook but either ISP or the email server that the error is coming from.

If you have a smartphone, test things there, and try to test from another ISP to the server connection (relative's house maybe). Maybe try a different computer or email client, Thunderbird maybe.
