The camera doesn't have any microphone ports [the only ports are for USB, AV (out), Component (out), and HDMI (out)], but does anyone know if there's a way to reprogram the camcorder to accept some form of sound device through another port?

I know that this is a hail-mary type of question, but maybe someone found a jailbreak.

Yes, there is a great field recorder that I used when I was first starting.

It is called the "zoom H1" zoom makes very good products and this field recorder, like most, has a pretty good quality mic on it already. That would prevent the need to get another mic if you are on a budget.

considering that those ports are outputs it would be close to impossible.

I know this wasn't your question but consider getting a field recorder it will rid you of the need for a port on your camera.

Hope his Helped!

Thank you for the reply. That's what I had assumed but you never know until you ask.

Are you aware of any entry-level audio recorders that are lightweight and user-friendly?

I do not know what your budget is but that is the cheapest one and it is simple to use and light weight.

If you have a higher budget and some experience the tascam dr-40 (similar to the H1) or the higher quality tascam dr-70d (NOT light weight) might be a better choice.

here are the links to those:
Tascam dr-40:https://www.amazon.com/DR-40-4-Track-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B005NACC6M/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1495661662&sr=8-4&keywords=tascam+dr

tascam dr-70d: https://www.amazon.com/TASCAM-DR-70D-4-Channel-Audio-Recorder/dp/B00OY6718K/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1495661549&sr=8-18&keywords=tascam

I would also make sure that these will work with your choice of a microphone. If you have questions about the mic compatibility I can help you with that also.
