When I plug in the power supply to my laptop the amber battery light flashes like mad as. The AC power also flashes green like mad.
I bought a replacement battery and that worked fine untill it ran out of juice. As soon as plugged in the charger the lights went crazy.
Does anyone have a clue as to what causes this and how to fix it?

Actually it can be half that if you do it yourself. Maybe less than half that.

The power supply was bad? Interesting. I've alwyas. . no I take that back, my father-in-law kind screwed his up, but I've never experienced a bad one. So this makes two in the past 11 years.

No it does not boot.
However it did boot up with the replacement battery and ran until the was drained.
Then I plugged in the charger and the lights kept fleashing.

The original battery and charger worked for 3 years with no problem.
I tested the charger and the output was 19V as required by the manufacturer.
I then removed the battery and plugged in the charger and the amber battery light still kept flashing as well as the green AC power light.
I hope this additional info gives you more ideas as to my problem and possible solution.

If the laptop doesn't boot without the battery then looks like you have a power problem in the laptop (as indicated by the flashing lights). The easiest thing for me would be to look into replacing the mainboard.

Many Thanks,
I took it to Toshiba repair shop and low and behold it was the charger that was no good. So $60.00 later all is well. I appricate your efforts.
I asked how much it would cost to replace motherboard and they said about $300-$400.
Thanks again
