pc not recognising headphones

Hi,

I have recently built a pc and am having difficulty connecting my headphones as windows 7 is not recognising them. I have updated all the drivers but still having the issue. I have plugged my headphones into the motherboard and front panel sockets and both nothing. the motherboard I have is an ASUS P8 Z68 V-pro.

Any suggestions?

try checking and making sure your sound is hooked up correctly to your front panel slots

On your volume button in bottom-right corner, right click and go on 'Playback devices'. Then check if your headphones are 1. on that list of devices, and if so: 2. that your headphones are the default playback device (right click on them to see).

I believe they are hooked up correctly and all wires seem connected correctly. If not would this affect the rear ports also?
