Hello,
Any opinions if there is any risk using older external flash units with
Pentax *ist D, eg. Pentax ring flash AF080C an Metz CT-4?

Matti.
By risks do you mean damage to the camera? Good question. I've tried a few
other older generic brands (Pentax compatible) and they worked but I wasn't
that satisfied by the results.

I don't know about those flashes but I decided to spend the big bucks and
buy the AF-360FGZ that Pentax really pushes for the *ist models. Expensive
for $299.00CAD but IMO well worth it.

I was using the AF220T and found a lot of my images were over-exposing
unless the camera was set to spot metering on the P mode. It took a lot a
bit of tinkering but I really had to be aware of the settings. I also used
the M mode and set the speed to 125/sec with a F5 aperture for this flash
with good results.

However, since I bought the AF-360FGZ I've been spoiled because of the great
results. It even has a wireless function so you can use it as a slave with
the built in flash.

My 2 cents for a fellow *ist user :)
