I have a pioneer elite VSX-85TXS - I am moving into a new house where there is a panasonic plasma wired through the walls with component only cables.

I want to know if I can use hdmi inputs into the VSX-85TXS and have it convert the digital video / audio signals to the component outputs?

I know I can buy hdmo to component output converters, so I hope that the unit can do it all by itself.

How would doing that deal with the HDCP?

Thanks!

Try it and see what happens. Can't hurt. As far as I know the whole idea of HDCP is to prevent copying so I wouldn't expect it to show up on the component out. Also not all HDMI content is necessarily HDCP protected so you may find some devices or source material which will output
ok and some not. I have set up several systems somewhat as you describe, where I learned the issue about some content works some not,
including using an HDMI to component converter. Sometimes I'd only get the "blue" screen (or green in my case).

HDCP aside receivers don't usually down convert digital video to analog. You can buy an HDMI to component video converter (just a cable will not work) or if the TV does have HDMI use a wireless HDMI solution. If you can run wires 1 cat6 or 2 cat5 can be converted for HDMI use.
