Planar Launches Affordable 3D-Ready Monitor

I guess all the journalists at Tom's are rich. $450 is not affordable, and it doesn't even come with a pair of glasses -_-

Well hey, Dell sells their ultra-high quality (non 3-d, IPS panel) Ultrasharp U2410 for $500, so this seems pretty reasonable for a 3-d monitor.

While I'm sure this is relatively reasonable compared to other 3D-ready monitors, it's still hell of al ot more expensive than I want it to be.

If we're talking about affordable, then why aren't we talking about the iZ3D 22" 3D Monitor price drop? I just picked one of those up. I'm just so disappointed that they tout $640 as "affordable". There are 3D kits at less than a quarter that price.

Uhg 16:9, really? 16:10 (8:5 I guess) or I don't buy! With the amount of space I lose to toolbars and taskbars, I'll be left with a little sliver across the middle of the screen!

um 16:10 is kind of a thing of the past....

Compared to most Dell products, anything would look reasonable. You can find 23" ips monitors on newegg for $289, That's still a hefty premium for a novelty feature on a TN screen.

Just because people companies don't want to make 16:10 monitors anymore even though they are better. It's like analog tape recordings; sure they are a thing of the past but they sound MUCH better than digital.

I bought my ASUS 3D monitor AND 3D vision kit as a bundle for $450. So $450 for just a monitor is a rip off...

I'd rather honestly spend the same amount on a 16:10 IPS panel.
A high quality IPS 2048x1152 would be pretty nice though (though it's only 16:9).

Why does the monitor have to specifically support NVidia or AMD in order to display 3D.
Someone's screwed up somewhere.

The monitor should tell the glasses about the refresh.
The graphics card should tell the monitor when to refresh, just like normal?
What else is there? Ensuring the eyes aren't switched? Just put a toggle button on the glasses somewhere and allow an optional message to be sent from the graphics card.
