Hello, i've currently got a H61M-S2P-B3 motherboard and i want to get the ATH-AD700 headphones, but i'm not sure if the sound quality will be good enough. Also if i were to need a soundcard, i'd need to get a bigger case and motherboard, as there's a big Asus 7950 in the way.

no you're don't need a soundcard to drive them, but it'd be good to have.. they're fairly low impedance just like the ATH-M50s, so onboard sound without an discrete amp / dac will be fine.

of course, they're going to sound wayyy better with a decent soundcard, but if you're asking whether it is a requirement - it is not. you'll be able to use them without one.

hope this helps. happy listening :)
