playing music from Android phone through my stereo

I've followed the instructions for connecting my Android phone to our stereo receiver using an RCA cable but there's no sound, except from my phone speaker. Is there a setting on my phone that needs to be made? Also tried using the Monster cable from our Airport Express (also has RCA connectors) and that's not working either. My headphones/buds work on my phone.

Turned out RCA cable was bad.
